16U Wins East Bay Bash
16U captured their first tournament championship this Spring/Summer season with a 3-1 showing at the West Coast Elite East Bay Bash. Palo Alto sophomore Gavin Haase and Sacred Heart Prep sophomore Luca De Bernardis earned MVP honors in separate games and stepped up big with three key players on injured reserve. The squad also used the help from 15U call-ups Zorba Apostolou, Jachin Reynolds, and Evan Arcilla to help fill the void. 16U averaged 63.5 points per game during the event including an 88-point outburst in a 88-61 win over the Hayward Panthers. They finished with a +38 point differential on the weekend.
17U Wins East Bay Bash, 8-0 in GXL
17U continued their success this past weekend with a perfect 4-0 record and tournament championship at the West Coast Elite East Bay Bash. Serra junior Andrew McDowell earned MVP honors during the event as the squad is now 8-0 on the Grassroots XL circuit. This marks 18-consecutive wins for the squad as 17U has been undefeated since losing their first game this Spring/Summer season. They finished the event with a +35 point differential and held the Bay Area Mustangs to just 30 points in a win on Sunday.
15U Goes 3-1 at East Bay Bash
After going 4-0 at the Golden State Gathering, 15U finished with a 3-1 record and another impressive showing at the East Bay Bash. After winning both games on Saturday, 15U had their impressive six-game win streak snapped in a narrow 40-35 loss to JavStep 15U Red. Despite the loss, Coach Zarian called it their “best game of the tourney” and was proud of their effort on display. They responded with a big win over Top Flight Elite after beating West Coast Elite Silicon Valley and Mudville Elite on Saturday.
