Zaden Martin Named Athlete of the Week

One of the summer standouts for Team Esface’s College Prep 17U team, Zaden Martin has continued the success into his senior season at Burlingame High School.

To open the year, Martin led the Panthers to a championship in the Gary Brinck Tournament behind his game-winning basket in the final against Christopher-Gilroy. His spinning floater with 10 seconds left made the difference in the 45-44 victory and capped a well-rounded performance with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Prior to the final, Martin scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 45-38 win against Los Gatos in the semi-finals. In the tournament opener, Martin had 13 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a 64-44 win over Leland.

After starting the season 4-0, Martin was named the San Mateo Daily Journal Athlete of the Week.

“He’s been really heady and really tough,” Burlingame head coach Jeff Dowd told the Daily Journal. “He’s kind of a hybrid. He kind of runs as a point-forward for us. He usually has a quickness matchup at that spot and is doing a great job getting to the rim.”

Zaden’s older brother, Zarian, has also had a hand in the success as an assistant coach at Burlingame. Zarian is currently the head coach for our 6th and 8th grade Team Esface Black Club teams when not coaching for the Panthers. After winning back-to-back CCS Championships, the Martins now have Burlingame off to an 8-2 start while looking for a CCS three-peat.
